Not much to blog about...

Why is it snowing? Why are we tempted with 50 degrees and then hit with a blizzard?

Had a pretty great weekend. My spa day on Friday was THE BEST. Seriously. I will give you a brief summary of the day. Started off with hydrotherapy (a.k.a. "bathtub"). It was much better than taking a bath in our tub at home--I didn't have to move any toys out of the way and try to keep children out while I relaxed. Then came exfoliation time. Kim, my masseuse, was very small but surprisingly strong! She exfoliated the crap out of my skin--it felt wonderful, like I lost weight by getting rid of dead skin. Kind of wished I could've put her in my pocket and brought her home so she could do this for me every day. Then it was body wrap time--she slathered brown goo all over me. Then it was steam tent time--as I was steaming she massaged my head. Delicious. Then I showered to rinse off the goo. I did notice that I was all alone--no Olivia crying because she couldn't see me and no Ethan trying to hang from the ceiling fan in our room. It was quite wonderful. After my shower, Kim lotioned me up and sent me to lunch. I had a tasty organic meal that I enjoyed whilst reading US Weekly. Does it get any better? After lunch I had my massage--I think I may have drooled a little. Then it was time for my facial. I've never had one of these so I wasn't sure what to expect. Elizabeth, the facial lady, took one look at my eyebrows and nonchalantly asked when was the last time I had them done. I replied "never" and she quickly offered to do them, no charge. I said "YES!" and she proceeded to rip my hair out. She said she is passionate about eyebrows--she doesn't care if you pay, she just needs to make sure it is done. What she did in 30 seconds probably would've taken me 3 hours to do with a tweezer. It was a very eye-opening experience, no pun intended! So the facial was great--I was cleansed, moisturized, unclogged and massaged. If you ever feel like you need a massage but don't want to spend that much, try a facial. They still massage your head, neck and shoulders and your skin feels amazing afterwards! When I finally got home (this whole day took about 6 hours) Jay wanted to hear all about it but I just wanted to take a nap! :) Seriously, you wouldn't think a day of pampering would take so much out of you but it did.

Ethan spent Friday night at Gummies Debbie and Gramps and had a great time (except, of course, for the dinosaurs that paid him a visit at 3 AM). He also spent Saturday night at Emmy and JT's and terrorized Patriot.

Jay and I pretty much blew our entire food budget for the month this weekend. We had two tasty dinners out (nothing fancy, just Famous Dave's and Red Robin). Baby Sister was with us both times and did pretty good.

I did find out that Sven the Weather Man and Guitar Hero idol was scooping ice cream in Eagan on Sunday afternoon. Cousin Becki told me about it and I was tempted to go; however, I was concerned that if I told him about Svenomenon he would want to read the blog and I sort of made a joke in an earlier post about his size so I decided not to go. I did see him on the news last night. I should set up a poll to determine if we think he fake bakes or uses self tanner. It is quite a thing to ponder.

Tomorrow is sort of a big day for me. I am going to see a rheumatologist to discuss some test results that came back "slightly positive" for lupus or rheumatoid arthritis. I am pretty nervous because I really am not interested in having either of those illnesses but at the same time am interested to find out what has been wrong with me for the past few months. I think they will determine that the tests were actually negative to begin with and that they don't know why I always feel like crap. I'll keep you posted on this. Just an FYI, I am very disappointed in my body these days. This past year has been very difficult for me physically and I don't like it. I used to always be in fantastic health and was never sick or run down. I don't know how things went downhill so fast.

Here are a few new pics for you to enjoy!

Easter Sunday--doesn't Ethan look like he is 6?!?

A shout out to my healthy husband!

This is Jay, January 2007 at 215 pounds.

This is Jay, March 2008 at 161 pounds. He has grown a tumor the size of a three year old boy! No, that's Ethan (with a very wet diaper, how embarrassing for me) hanging onto the tattoo that Jay has of Ethan's name on his arm. Olivia's name is on his other arm.

When Jay decided to lose a little weight last year, I was very skeptical of his chances for success. He had never stuck with anything for more than three weeks. But for some reason it stuck this time and his inital plan to "just get down to 190, maybe 185 if he worked really hard" was quickly accomplished in three months so he kept going. He is now thinner and in better health than he was when we got married. His diabetes is really in control and his A1C results are at 7.0 which is great for him. (For those of you that don't know, Jay has been diabetic since he was 2.)

Jay, I am so proud of you for taking control of your health! You have become a better husband, friend and father since making these big changes in your life. Thank you for caring enough about us to care for yourself. I love you!

We just upped the ante

Well folks, tonight Jay and I took Svenomenon to the next level! It was pretty crazy. We set it to medium (instead of easy) and began to shred. If it was a real guitar I'm sure my hands would be bleeding. :) Yes, I know we are total dorks but it is a fun time for us to be together after the kids are in bed. Another thing that tells me we are total dorks? Jay refers to his guitar as "The Axe". I have named mine "The Hammer of Thor". We are so cool.

Ethan usually comes downstairs after we put him in bed these days--it is annoying but it is life right now. Tonight we heard him about 10 minutes after we put him to bed. He is always carrying at least one or two (sometimes more, it really gets tricky for him) cars or trains and they clang together and it alerts us that he is around. Jay says it is the next best thing to a cowbell.

I got a fever---and the only prescription is more cowbell!

I think I love my husband

Today Jay called me and told me to clear my calendar for March 28! Such a sweet guy--like I had anything going on anyway. :) He booked me for a half day spa extravaganza! He was already planning a day off from work (to start the birthday weekend off right) and decided to send me away to refresh myself, both as a woman and a mother who is at the end of her rope. He is a wise man with good timing, I'd say. Needless to say, I am thrilled. I've never had a spa day and am very much looking forward to it. Thank you so much Jay! I love you more today than yesterday, but not as much as tomorrow! :)

Ethan and Mom rocking out to Guitar Hero

Svenomenon!

We finally got another guitar controller for Guitar Hero. Needless to say, Jay and I were rocking out tonight! Our band is named Svenomenon and we were called out for two encores. We are pretty fantastic.

You may be wondering where the name "Svenomenon" came from. We love Sven from the Kare 11 Weather Team. We have been making jokes about him and including him in conversation for at least a year. He is always a strange shade of orange and looks like he is 12 years old and very small. Jay actually saw him at a 5K last summer and made a point to get close to him to see how tall he really is. The result is that Sven is not tall at all; Sven is quite small. Was that a bit of poetry? Anyway....that is how our band came to be named Svenomenon!

Took the kiddies to the zoo today. Ended up buying a membership for $85 instead of paying $28 for just today. I have to go 2 more times this year to make it worthwhile. So if anyone wants to join me, let me know! Ethan ran like a crazy person the whole time. In fact, I spent most of my time trying to find him--he kept running FAR ahead. Disney will be interesting this year, folks. How do we feel about child leashes?

Earth Hour PSA

Click on this link to see our very own Aaron Prim (Britt's husband) and his band, DownDownDown, sharing a very informative and hilarious message about Earth Hour. Aaron is the "narrator" of the video.

Enjoy!

Funny Church signs

I'm just writing the text--can't figure out how to put the pics in.

"Staying in bed shouting "O God" does not constitute going to church."

"God does not believe in atheists therefore atheists do not exist."

"Forgive your enemies--it messes with their heads."

"Free coffee, everlasting life. Yes, membership has its privileges!"

"Don't be so open-minded your brains fall out."

"God so loved the world that He did not send a committee."

"Read the Bible--it will scare the hell out of you."

"Wal-Mart is not the only saving place!"

"Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity."

"There are some questions that can't be answered by Google."

What's with the snow?

I was none too pleased to be greeted with a winter wonderland this morning. Does Mother Nature not understand that it is a) no longer winter and b) no longer wonderful to get snow? Jimbo, why do we live here? :)

There is absolutely nothing exciting happening in our lives at the moment that would be at all interesting to share. Both kids are sick, I am getting my thyroid tested tomorrow to see if that might explain the loss of my spirit and the house is a mess. Pretty much an average day this winter!

Big news....

Ethan used the potty tonight for both #1 and #2!!! Sorry to be indelicate but this is a red letter day in the Olson house. We've been encouraging, begging and bribing this kid for three months to do this! I almost cried when I found out. I was at Joanne ETC doing some shopping and Ethan called to tell me the news. I kind of had a hot flash too--I was that excited!

Here I am!

I have finally entered the technology age. I now have a Facebook page AND a blog! Craziness.
